My students need the book "Witness" by Karen Hesse for our class. We will use this book to teach the history of a small town and to see a story from three different points of view.

My students are very special students! We are a Title l school located Northeast of Birmingham, Alabama. I serve 7th-12th grade students as a reading teacher. We are striving to become excellent readers and writers, so as my student's teacher, I am trying to find materials that will help my students achieve this goal.
Reading and writing are vital tools that greatly impact learning in every way and I want to be able to provide experiences that mean more to my students than just words on a page.
I try to choose activities that are interesting and relevant to students, as well being able to make personal connections for now and in the future. Many of my students have lived through many obstacles that could set them back, so I try to help empower them and have them realize how strong, intelligent, courageous, and brave they are! Reading and writing are gifts of growth that I can share and empower them with and I intend to help them grow in every way possible!
This wonderful novel will be used to teach students many different literacy skills. It will be used to teach specifically the story of a small town in America that has pivotal historical situations happening. We will use this story specifically to see the events unfold through the eyes of 3 different characters. Not only will students be learning literacy skills, they will be learning about historical events that have taken place in our country's future. Through this project, my students will learn about important historical events and how one event can transform the lives of people in many different ways.
