Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students love to read and they enjoy going to the listening center. However animated I try to sound, I'm sure they would appreciate professionally made books on tape, instead of following along with photocopied books I bound, and listening to me read the book aloud on tape.

My first graders live in one of the lowest socioeconomic neighborhoods in our city.

Spanish is their home language. My students, while retaining their home language, actively work hard to acquire English. This group of students have very dedicated parents that want the best education possible for their children. They are very involved in their academic and social development and often come to the classroom to see what they can do to help. My students enjoy learning. They love to read and are quite good at it! I try to give them as many reading opportunities as I can. That's why I'm asking for a reading library with tapes. The listening library gives them independent time to enjoy a book quietly. Our school's main focus is increasing our academic scores but it is still important that students have time to play and learn organized games. My request for a set of balls will allow us to play games that need balls during our P.E. time. Thank you for your help.

My Project

Books inspire, motivate, and spark imagination. My students are second language learners. I try to give them as many opportunities as I can to acquire English skills. Leveled books with colorful pictures that can be listened to time and time again will boast my students acquisition of English in a fun way. The books I am requesting also follow some of the language arts and science themes we study during the school year. We have no equipment now in our classroom to play any organized games. I just read a study that says that students that are more physically active are more academically successful. I want to get my students moving and teach them the fundamentals of some ball games and teach them about good sportsmanship. I think it is important for our students to be well rounded.

My students and I will be so grateful for any support you give us toward our listening library and P.E.

equipment. The listening library will help my students with acquiring English and make them better readers while exposing them to good literature. Hopefully they will be life long readers that simply have a thirst for learning. The P.E. equipment will allow my students to learn the fundamentals of games played with balls, increase gross motor skills, and simply, good sportsmanship.
