Why Do I Have to Wear These Funny Goggles?

My students need new and clean lab safety equipment that is used throughout the school year.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Science is a hands-on experience, for example to see the chemical reaction that you just created. Too bad many of our students can't see this happen. No really, the goggles are so bad, you can't see out of them, or even keep them on the head due to bad straps.

My students range from highly gifted to ESL 12-13 years old with very diverse ethnic backgrounds.

In order to get them to be more curious about the world around them, our classes perform many science experiments; from running up and down the hallway to rolling marbles and the best is chemistry, where they think they will get to "blow things up."

My Project

When my students walk into my classroom, they know they instantly become a scientist. My students need clean and functional lab safety goggles. Having a cabinet cleaner will help with time too, as all my 5 classes need to have clean goggles, and all my classes use them the same day. My students know that they cannot work on any labs, especially chemistry, without being safety first. No goggles, no labs. I want all my students to learn how scientists learn, by doing. They will then be able to see what happens in the test tubes and beakers.

Students should not have to learn science from reading a book, but by DOING the experiments in the book.

A good scientist is a SAFE scientist, no matter how funny they look wearing the goggles!
