Why Cells Aren't Big

My students need 3 Why Cells Aren't Big Kits and refills, so that they can get a better understanding why there is a size limit for cells.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

It's hard for students to visualize why cells have a size limitation on how big they can get.

My students are 7th grade public school students in California.

Our class is a life science class. Many of my students are on the school lunch program. Their ethnicity's are primarily Hispanic. My students do better when learning new concepts the more hands-on the instruction is. They tend to have difficulty when asked to think abstractly.

My Project

With this kit my students will by able to explore the limits of cell growth. During the process of doing this lab they will make and analyze "cells" of different sizes. They will get to learn about how cells get nutrients and get rid of waste. They will then analyze their data and draw conclusions about how big a cell can get.

Without these resources being donated my students will not have the opportunity to do hands-on work with this concept, as there is no money for it in the school budget.

This is a fundamental science concept that my students will benefit throughout their lives from mastering now.
