My Students

Vinyl albums, eight track tapes, cassettes, CD, DVD, MP3 players, music downloads and streaming have fused music and technology. It is evident this union is truly stronger than ever! I love Hans Christian Anderson's quote, "Where words fail, music speaks." I want my students to understand that, too!

I can safely say that, "I love teaching and I adore teaching music to my students." Our pre-kindergarten through fifth grade school is one of the elementary schools in our area.

We have almost five hundred and fifty students here! I currently work with the pre-k through third grade students with music weekly. I also teach tonet lessons to our fourth graders. In fifth grade, I teach elementary band. I believe that "Empowering Students Through Art" is a must in our world today! I also feel that although I teach music, that bringing ELA and reading skills into the lessons is critical. Students working in centers need to be able to comprehend what they are reading to guide them through the lessons. In short, my lessons will mesh music, reading & technology lessons. With students working in independent centers, focusing on ELA skills is a must. Without a doubt, I know my students could accomplish what I am setting out to do. I just need the resources to offer these lessons to my students.

My Project

Music and technology in the world today are without a doubt intertwined. It has been that way since music was produced electronically. However, since the birth of computers and internet, the union of the two has definitely solidified & entered unmarked territory. At this point, my goal lies with "Empowering Students Through Art". As an elementary band and music teacher, I would love to strategically incorporate an iPad center to enhance my students' music experiences. With so many musical apps and sites to stream music, I could utilize those to benefit all of my students. As a fairly new teacher, I know I am now ready to offer productive, technology-rich music lessons for my students. Without a doubt, having an iPad center with effective musical apps, would enable me to intertwine this powerful duo in effective ways. I have been researching apps to help students with music notes, scales and reading music. I can state with certainty that combining iPads and apps can enrich my lessons!

As a music teacher, I see the powerful connection between technology and musical lessons that intrigue students.

With an iPad center, one group could work with the four iPads and apps, while another works with instruments, tonets or other resources. With an iPad center and music apps, I can offer music lessons that "speak" to my students! I love Hans Christian Anderson's quote, "Where words fail, music speaks." I truly want my students to experience this. Would you consider helping us?
