As I hear the slang language used in the hallway each morning, I cringe. I have set a goal to offer my students a chance to become effective readers, writers, and speakers once they leave my classroom. I am a fourth and fifth grade looping teacher.

My twenty-seven students and myself have shared two inexpensive dictionaries from a local store this year. In order to fulfill my goal, I need help in purchasing the requested materials. I would like to be equipped in my classroom with the necessary tools that will assist me in providing the best opportunity for my students to be successful. By having the dictionaries, I would be able to begin at step 1. The first and most necessary stage is the foundational building blocks. In order to have my students obtain the goal of being effective readers, writers, and speakers they will need to learn words that will guide them in education. By having the dictionaries, I will be able to create innovative and exciting classroom activities that will steer the students into using new words with more precision. As these students are getting ready for junior high, I am continuously urging them to see that their education should continue into higher education.

We need a classroom set of inexpensive Webster's dictionaries. The students will be able to use these dictionaries on a daily basis in all subject areas. I am requesting six hardback Webster's dictionaries to assist the students when we are in group settings and as resource materials.

My students need and deserve the opportunity to be prepared for their future. Please help with the proposal to allow us to purchase dictionaries to help mold my students into effective readers, writers, and speakers.
