My Students

Do you know the letters in your name? Can you write your name? Many of my students come to kindergarten without these skills.

My students are very energetic and full of life, however many of them are not equipped with the knowledge most of us acquire at home before coming to school.

Many of them live below the poverty line and have not attended any type of daycare or school before entering into kindergarten. They attend a Title One school in an urban area.

My Project

These resources will be used as a hands-on learning tool to help students learn and recognize letters and how they come together to make words. These resources will be used to teach students how to spell and write their first and last names in whole group, small group, and center settings. The use of magnetic letters will also be used in a variety of making word activities, building letter fluency, building letter recognition, and help build reading confidence in kindergarten.

This project will help motivate students to learn and recognize letters and letter sounds and we will blend them together to form their names and other words.

We will help them to establish their identities through the use of their names. It is also important because as I started this year in kindergarten I was shocked at the amount of students that did not know the alphabet and how to spell their names. The use of magnetic letters in the classroom will be a great learning tool.
