Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember the book that you read that got you hooked? The 1,000 students in our middle school do not have parents who will take them to the library. Therefore, it is our passion. and I hope you will join in, to build a library that will inspire kids to want to read.
Our students have 100% free and reduced lunch and 75% of students are English language learners.
Within our school, we have begun to build a passion for reading by building units around novels that will engage students and build mastery within the content standards. Yet, what the students are still missing is the ability to read on their own for enjoyment. Our library is out of date and we don't have the finances to put forth to make it any better. These students need the opportunity to be exposed to a variety of literature that will open their eyes to the world around them.
My Project
These books will be highlighted in our library in a new section entitled,"Traveling Through the World of Literature."
These books will excite students about reading and give them the opportunity to build the love for reading that was gifted to each of us by a parent, teacher, or our own passion to pick up a book.
According to William Styron, during Conversations with William Styron he says,"ÂÂA great book should leave you with many experiences, and slightly exhausted at the end. You live several lives while reading."ÂÂ
Students in our area don't get much exposure to the outside world. Therefore, these books will open their eyes, hearts, and minds to the world and possibilities around them.
Please give students in our school the opportunity to build a passion for reading.
These books will be available and used by students who have a desire to learn and a passion for knowledge but need direction to get it. Please help us drive our students into new books!
