We're an on your feet, can't sit still, knowledge seeking, eager learning, ants in your pants, busy bee kind of crowd! Sometimes our thirst to learn gets sidetracked by our groove to move. These Hokki stools could channel our fidgets to an even flow learning tempo.
My students are a colony of middle school bees with special learning needs and communication challenges.
They buzz about from one end of the school to the other landing each day to work with me to work on skills such as attending, listening, processing, executing directions, expressing ideas, socializing, and thinking critically to solve problems.
My Project
Students will share use the Hokki stools as an alternative seating option in class. They will learn how to self-regulate their attention and arousal by making small shifts and changes within themselves and their bodies as they maintain posture and alignment on the Hokki. It is a valuable life skill to be able to make small changes which yield big rewards. Hokki will be a vehicle to teach this lesson to my students where the rewards come in the form of active engaged learners and thoughtful responders.
Classroom focus, student self-regulation, teacher instruction and depth of learning will improve as a result of Hokki availability in the classroom!
Students will develop independence for taking charge of their own regulatory needs yielding benefit for themselves and their classmates. Hokki will give our wiggles somewhere to go and open up endless possibilities to our thoughts and our words.
