My Students

In wanting to light up the excitement for science within the classroom, I have chosen this project to give students a hands-on experiment that will demonstrate what colors make up white light by exploring light through two different hands-on activities.

Our school is located in a lower socioeconomic part of town where parents struggle to provide for their children.

Children come ready to learn, but often times without the supplies and or background knowledge from life experiences as compared to peers from another part of the city. Many of our students are linguistically poor and often times it is a challenge to connect real life to the science concept being taught in the classroom. Performing demonstrations in the classroom helps to bring learning alive for our students and create that needed connection.

My Project

My students need these three color wheels and two color mixing apparatuses to investigate what colors make up white light. This activity is designed for students to use inquiry to explore white light. They will be working as individuals and as teams to predict outcomes and explore actual outcomes. Students will explore colors of light. Students will describe visible light as part of the electromagnetic spectrum.

Recent budget cuts and the struggling state economy has brought new challenges for both families and teachers in our district - especially when it comes to the topic of education and providing supplies for the classroom.

Often times students are missing basic supplies such as paper and pencils. The teachers at our school are dedicated to student learning and wish to provide the most fulfilling, well-rounded education possible.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
