My Chorus is singing their hearts out, bright and early every Monday morning. Chorus is comprised of 4th and 5th graders who have chosen Chorus as their musical ensemble. I love choosing music that is current and fun. It makes it a BLAST to practice and perform!
Chorus is open to all 4th and 5th grade students and we have a wide variety of participants.
The 45 students in Chorus range from Advanced Academic students to Intellectually Disabled and for most of them, English is their second language. In fact, a handful of them speak only a few words of English, although that doesn't hold them back from singing with us! Our school is also Title I so many of our students are from low income families.
None of this hinders their ability to make beautiful music and enjoy what they are singing!
The Chorus students have a great sense of humor, LOVE to learn, and work extremely hard. The culture of our school promotes team work, honesty, and perseverance, among many other things. All teachers, staff, and students are working together to create a wonderful and safe place for learning.
My Project
The Chorus is performing Broadway songs at their Spring concert. One of our tunes is "The Circle of Life" from The Lion King Musical. The Broadway show "The Lion King" will be performing at the Kennedy Center in June and I have a dream of taking my Chorus to this once-in-a-lifetime event. Many of them will never have the opportunity to go to the Kennedy Center or see a professional performance.
My students need funding for tickets to see The Lion King at the Kennedy Center for the Arts.
By helping us get to the Kennedy Center to see "The Lion King," donors will be helping me instill a long lasting love of music and culture in these students, as well as show them how hard work and dedication can pay off in so many ways.
We'd be able to make lifetime memories for some fantastic and deserving children!
