As we begin our day, the students enter into a room filled with the sound of nature and calming music to prepare their minds for the creative journey we are about to embark on. We have a saying in our class "Do Your Best, Forget the Rest" and each day that is just what we do.
At our school many of are students are considered to be less fortunate, but they don't let that stop them from expressing themselves through the art that they create.
They let their imagination be their guide to finding out who they are and where they want to be in their lives. When I first arrived at our school, the art program was in transition. Even though our supplies are limited, they still come to class ready to make something new.
My Project
With these printmaking and drawing supplies my students will be able to apply the techniques they have learned in class from presentations and videos about Japanese printmaking, Ukiyo-e. So far each student has spent hours developing their concepts for their prints in hopes that we will be able to create them using the techniques and materials that thus far they have only seen in videos. My students will be able to learn how to better work in teams to achieve a common goal while working in stations to create their final prints using these materials you have been so gracious to provide us.
By receiving this donation the students and the class atmosphere as a whole will be elevated because of the increased level of quality each student will be able to achieve with these new materials.
Current we only have aged and limited printmaking materials but regardless of whether we are sponsored or not we will still keep moving forward creating what we can with the materials we have now.
