My students' recorder playing has taken off into the stratosphere thanks to the last Donors Choose project for two tenor and six alto recorders. Now we are ready to take our music-making to the next level!
My students are creative, enthusiastic and very musical.
They love to sing, play instruments and do movement activities. I feel they are taking flight due to the kind support of our last Donors Choose project, but we are now ready to bring all of our parents and families to the next level of recorder playing! Students and families ask me everyday how they can get involved in the music, and I want to provide them more instruments to facilitate recorder experiences. The school is in a rural setting that just doesn't have the equipment nor music instruments of a larger or more well-funded school, but despite these limitations, the students have done incredible work with what we have. I know they can do the work; they just need a little more help!
My Project
My students have already created music and musical arrangements using the current soprano, eight alto and two tenor recorders recently added to our instrument inventory, thanks to the generosity of donors to our last project. With these additional recorders, more students will be able to experience the excitement of taking their recorder skills to another level. With these additional recorders, we will now be able to have half the class playing the alto, tenor and bass recorder, while the rest of the students play their own soprano recorders, to create four part pieces.
This prepares my students for middle and high school band by encouraging them to listen to and experience multiple parts at the same time, as in soprano, alto, tenor and bass parts. Additionally, this cooperative music-making experience also fosters important listening, cooperative learning, and critical thinking skills. What a wonderful chance for a rich and full musical experience for my students!
Your donation will provide my students with an exposure to four part recorder playing very few students ever experience especially at an elementary school.
I believe this will push my students to even higher musically experiences and achievement, in addition to facilitating their growth in important academic and social skills, including cooperative learning, critical thinking, active listening, and mathematic and reading literacy.
