My students are in the center of Silicon Valley, yet we have only one old computer to use in the classroom. My class needs a new laptop computer to make lessons and learning more exciting, engaging, and up-to-date with modern technology!
I teach 27 fourth graders in a diverse public school in California.
The students in my school love technology. Using a computer for writing, reading articles online, or conducting Internet research is sure to create interest and enthusiasm from my class. They also have varied access to technology at home, and for the students who don't have computers or internet, using technology in the classroom is an important learning opportunity.
My Project
A laptop computer would provide me with the technology I need to share engaging math, science, and social studies resources on the web with my class. We have a document camera and projector, but we need a laptop to do more lessons with technology. I would also like to enhance my reading and writing lessons by having students learn more about authors from their websites and videos that are available online. I hope to use Skype in the classroom to connect my students to classrooms in other countries such as Australia and Sweden. My current desktop computer is too old and slow to function well with a program like Skype and webpages take ages to load. We need a new computer to be able to enjoy all the possibilities that online learning offers!
This project would be so meaningful in bringing learning to life for my students!
