My students need math related board games like Jumpin', Chips, Bump It!, Math Noodlers, Clumsy Thief, and Shape-O-Metry to reinforce and practice math skills and concepts
The essence of mathematics is not to make simple things complicated, but to make complicated things simple. ~S. Gadder
I have 50+ amazing 3rd-5th graders that are very eager to learn math, but are struggling with basic, foundational skills.
We are a full Title 1 school with 60% of our students receiving free or reduced breakfast and lunch. Nevertheless, my students come to school with a positive attitude everyday. I have high expectations for my students and hold them accountable for their learning, regardless of the challenges they face. This year, my students have challenges ranging from learning disabilities like autism and ADHD to minimal academic support outside of school. However, I am continually amazed at how dedicated they are to doing their best each day.
My Project
Do you remember playing board games as a child? We all know that children enjoy playing games.
Experience tells us that games can be very productive learning activities. I can close my eyes and recall countless memories of playing board games as a child. However, I did not realize that I was learning and practicing academic skills until many years later.
I would love to have math related board games like like Jumpin' Chips, Bump It!, Math Noodlers, Sequence Numbers, Clumsy Thief, and Shape-O-Metry in my classroom to reinforce and practice math skills and concepts. These games will help my students develop and foster the love of mathematics without realizing that they are learning.
Sometimes, my students get so caught up in the steps and procedures needed to complete a problem that they become overwhelmed. The games in this project would allow them to approach each skill in a non-threatening manner.
Your donations will allow me to bring fun, exciting, engaging, and non-threatening games and activities into our daily Math curriculum.
The games will allow my students to grasp difficult concepts with ease and will encourage them to apply the skills needed for the required math concepts to win the game.
