We Dig Our Garden!

My students need basic gardening tools (rakes, pruners, hoes and shovels) to clear, prepare and care for our new school garden.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We want to dig in our school garden but have no tools. My students have one shovel and two rakes to share. We will be creating our garden from the ground up, literally.

We are a public middle school in Oregon, with 900 7th and 8th graders.

My students are awesome. They are hardworking, funny and bring a sense of humor and enjoyment to the classroom. Middle school students want to make a difference, and my students love to see when they are making a positive impact on themselves, their classmates and their community.

My Project

I have requested a variety of garden tools, such as shovels, rakes, pruners, a garden hoe and a hose for watering. These will specifically allow us to clear, clean, prune, and transplant in our garden area. We have grand plans for our garden. However, it is currently suffering from 30 years of differing visions of what the space should be. It has been neglected and overgrown. This is an amazing opportunity to give our students a meaningful, hands-on, learning experience. There is nothing more satisfying than the tangible results of growing plants in your garden. From starting seeds, to growing vegetables, harvesting the crops and eating what you've grown, students will have the opportunity to participate in all stages of food production. Our end goal is to grown fruits and vegetables that can be served in our school cafeteria. In order to do all of this, we need tools!

This is a project that ALL students can participate in and be proud of.

The daily success and self satisfaction that can come from building and growing a garden is immeasurable. Your donations will make it possible for us to create and maintain a beautiful space for our school and community.
