Ms. C. from NY is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a variety of non-fiction books on various types of animals. They need some of the books in the Judy Blume, Roald Dahl and Jerry Spinelli collection.

Do you know what it's like to wish you could read the books of your favorite author but did not have any of their books? My students love specific authors, however we do not have any of their books. I want my students to begin the new school year by having access to the authors they are fond of.
My students are intelligent and witty.
They are creative and fun loving. They are always excited to be learning new things and are very dedicated and concerned about their future. Our school is located in a low income area. It is a Title One school and 97% of our students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. Our school is located opposite a large housing project. It is here that most of these wonderful children live. They come to school happy and excited daily to see their friends and teachers. They come from foster homes and homeless shelters. Many are being taken care of by a grandparent. Many have a parent that is incarcerated. In spite of all the negative, they are extremely positive and loving children. They are warm and caring and try very hard to do their best at all times. My students are respectful and hard working. Many take care of themselves and try to come to school clean and prepared. Like children the world over my students have hopes, dreams, and expectations.
My students love to read. They cherish books and take very good care of them. At school there are books to read however at home there are not many. Our classroom does not always have the types of books my students like to read. This causes many to be bored and uninspired when we have our extended reading period. My students love Roald Dahl, Judy Blume and Jerry Spinelli. They also love non-fiction books. I have been teaching for many years and realize now the importance of having what the children need in the classroom from the first day of the school year. I want my students to come into the classroom and have the books they desire and enjoy. This is critical to their growth as readers. Children are like adults in that they like to read what they are most interested in. I want my students to be lifelong readers and discover wonderful things about the world they live in through books. I want them to be inspired through the type of literature they are interested in reading.
My students love Roald Dahl, Judy Blume and Jerry Spinelli.
They also love non-fiction books. They love books on birds, mammals, fish, and amphibians. With a well-stocked library, from early in the school year my students will be off to the best start ever. Please help them to get a jump start. Help me to help them bridge the gap.
