My students need paper, thread, and glue to make their own books so they can hand sew their visual journals. These sketchbooks will be their daily supplies.

My Students

Out of 180 students only about half are able to pay the 10 dollar art fee for my class. The fees collected go to pay for restocking materials for projects on a bi-annual basis. This restriction limit the variety and amount of materials I can provide for them.

My students are forty-seven percent Black, forty-three percent white and 10 percent other consisting of mostly Latino/Hispanic decent.

One of many Title one rural city schools in the same county as a largely title one city. Collecting the supplies fee is the hardest part of this past year.

My Project

I am requesting the paper, thread, needles, and other materials needed in the activity of book making. With these materials my students will sew their personalized sketchbooks that will be used daily throughout the year. Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep. -Scott Adams To an artist these mistakes, or failed ideas, are more often found filling their sketchbooks. Imagine creating your own sketchbook with personalized covers and pages as you enter your first art class in high school.

By giving students the ability to create a personalized object they are more willing to fill it with daily exercises.

The process of creating your own book requires precise, following of instructions in particular order so that the book stays together.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
