About My Students

The 8th graders are going to Madison on a field trip. All students are to bring their own device for a technology-led scavenger hunt around the capitol and ultimately create a visitors guide of their trip. Students in my special education program need extra support and often do not own their own device.

Students had to find a way to demonstrate their learning and decided something with visuals and captions would be intriguing to their audience - a presentations of learning night at school. Through having an iPad, students will be able to take pictures, do research on what they have seen, and create a presentation. Students wanted a device they could share and that would help make a professional looking product to be put on display for the community at our presentations of learning night.

Students will learn about working with others through collaborative work, as well as research and presentation styles. In addition, they will be exposed to using technology for learning to prepare them for college and their careers. Students will demonstrate their skills through being involved in collaboration and creating a visually appealing and accurate visitor's guide that someone could use if planning a trip to our state's capitol.

In Their Own Words

We want to create something that will allow us to show our learning about our trip to the state capitol building in Madison, WI. One of the requirements is that we use technology to show our learning.

Teachers will be taking us to Madison, and our special education teacher will be helping us with the technology and finding the things we need to make a good visitor's guide. We will have to decide what would make people want to come to visit the capitol, but our teacher will help us use the iPad and will help edit our work so that it looks good for our presentations of learning night at school. We will have access to Google Docs to create spreadsheets to take surveys and collect data.

This project is to show our community about the capitol and teach them about important pieces of history in Madison. We also want to make this project look cool so that other kids and their parents would want to visit Madison and learn about our state's history because of our visitor's guide.
