This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My Latin American Studies course is often the first time my students begin learning about themselves: their history, culture, traditions. A goal of the course is learning about the world outside the class, beyond the textbooks. A reliable laptop would help in this exploration (IE. Google Earth).

My students come from the South Los Angeles area and are considered low income, high risk.

They are also intellectually curious, motivated, caring, and inspired to change the world. They enjoy learning about their heritage, their ancestors, and a land that seems so distant, and yet so relevant.

My Project

A reliable and dedicated classroom laptop would help out greatly. My students will use the laptop when presenting small group projects, investigating characters of Latin America, and traveling the virtual world on Google Earth.....from the ruins of Mexico City to the favelas of Rio de Janeiro.

My students will get to see Latin America not just from words and pictures in a textbook, but also discover the region's geography through virtual travel, exploring North, South, and Central America.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
