My Students

The challenge facing my students is their inability to hear the difference between what they are telling as their story and what they actually write down on the paper. I am hoping that my students will be able to hear their stories with more accuracy and make proofreading corrections.

My students attend the second grade in a local Elementary School.

We are located in the Los Angeles Unified School District. Our school population is 90% Hispanic from low-income families who are English Language Learners and come from families that cannot help them at home due to the language barrier. In addition, many of my students do not have computer access at home which would enhance their critical thinking skills when it comes to telling a story and then transferring that information into the written form.

My Project

My students will be able to operate the tablet and video tape themselves telling a story. The tablet will allow each student to individually watch and listen to the story they have told. Then they will be able to write down the story they have taped and proofread it against the story they wrote down. The tablet will enhance their writing styles and proofreading skills. As well as inspire them to enjoy writing stories. With English as their second language, most of my students do not want to write. The tablet will add another level of inspiration and desire to strive for the best that they can be. Furthermore, it will give them a visual and auditory method of proofreading their story that will resonate with them and help them to achieving a higher level of academic success.

I believe that the tablet video tape of their story will inspire each student to work hard to make their written story better than before.

Each student will have an opportunity to see how they tell a story, hear how they tell a story and read how they write a story. These different learning modalities will enhance their drive to learn about their mistakes, correct them orally and in written form.
