My Students

My typical classroom day is very mellow. Students in this school have known each other since kindergarten in most cases because they all attended the attached elementary school. The school is very small, but the students are very involved in school activities, like sports.

We live in a rural community over 30 miles north of Las Vegas.

The students here have limited opportunities to leave their town and experience anything in the bigger city. They deserve a chance to see Shakespeare, but field trips simply don't work this far out of town.

My Project

Indian Springs has a great number of extra-curricular activities for the athletically-inclined, but there are very few events and activities that happen on campus for those that don't participate in sports. I would love for my students to see that if they put their minds to it, they could do something great and note-worthy other than playing football. Our school has a small theater program which would greatly benefit from the insight of these Shakespearian actors, and our English classes can benefit from seeing Shakespeare still alive and relevant today.

Most of the students at my school come from poor households.

Most have free or reduced lunches and get their reading books from the library. As much as I want this project to happen, I simply don't think I can ask the students to pay for it. The district has cut the budget for our school, so the school paying for it is impossible as well.
