To teach the power of the written word is so important to each generation ... it gives students a voice to tell their story, to learn from the mistakes of the past, and pass on the value of learning and reading to the next generation.
My students love to read OR hate to read.
My goal is for every student to find a story, an insight, an author, or a book that speaks to them, gets them excited about the story of others, and gives them the power to tell their own story. My students come from a wide variety of socioeconomic, ability-levels, and life experiences. Some have been empowered by words, others have been beaten down by words. I want to give them the tools to tell their story and listen to the story of others. My students, no matter their background or life experience, truly want to learn and become am integral, educated part of society.
My Project
I am hoping by putting books in their hands that they will find joy, peace, hope and sadness in reading the story of others, that they will understand the power of their words (or absence of words) and become true readers. I will encourage students to READ and to share their experience that they had within those pages. These books will be loved and shared, and used to motivate and engage students!
Students that don't read struggle to find the same success that readers do.
It is vital that teachers strive to find that HOOK that gets students excited about reading and giving them a the chance to find joy in the stories of others. It is important that students understand that everyone has a story to tell and by reading the stories of others, they can find their voice to tell their own.
