Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I remember being in 2nd grade and visiting Washington DC. I can still feel the butterflies in my stomach as I stood in from of the Lincoln Monument. My 2nd grade students will likely never have that option so I need to be able to bring the US symbols and landmarks to them!

I teach at a school with over 70% free and reduced lunch.

We are extremely high poverty and because of this, our students do not have experiences where they may travel and see our great country. The majority of my classroom is also from another country and learning English as we move through our school year. Even though my classroom has issues with poverty, ALL of my students have a love of learning and can't wait to learn something new!

My Project

The resources I am asking for have very vivid pictures which my students can use to put the pictures into their minds. There are also many hands-on materials which really helps my students in their learning. I have also asked for many books, which my students lack, which allows for a student to learn at their own pace and ability level. All of these materials will not only excite my students but give them an additional way of knowing what the United States is known for without having to travel there.

As a low income school, we are always looking for new and fun ways to teach our students.

I truly believe these resources will make a huge impact in my students' learning of what are symbols and landmarks that make the United States remarkable. Please help me instill a love of the USA in my students...and help us master this learning standard!
