My students need 12 iPad minis (with protective case and 2-year protection plan) to facilitate collaborative group work in a project-based learning classroom.
Technology is all around us, touching almost every part of our lives. My students need twelve iPad minis to enhance their learning, facilitate new ways to collaborate with one another, help them connect to the world outside of our classroom, and prepare them for their future.
My students attend an urban dependent charter school in California.
Over 60% of our students receive free and reduced lunch. We have a large population of English language learners. Over 5% of our students receive special education services. Many students attend our school because they are seeking a smaller high school experience where they won't get lost in the shuffle. They seek a small, safe, positive, and supportive culture. Student voice is important and encouraged; students are always a part of the decision making process. They take great ownership in the school, and are often describing it as their "second home," "family," and a place where they can be themselves.
My Project
These twelve iPad minis will provide countless educational opportunities for my students. My students will be able to keep group projects going with instant access to information. They will be able to Skype with outside experts. They will be able to create and collaborate using tools like Google Docs. They will create presentations, read, create mind maps to plan projects, create films, access textbooks, go on virtual tours, listen to podcasts on iTunes U, blog, and research.
