My music classroom is usually abuzz with singing, instruments, and dancing. I want to use more instruments with my fourth graders, and Ukulele's are a great way to get them reading and performing on instruments. I would love for them to have ukulele's, as well as some fun music to learn.
My students are bright, creative, and talented students that crave the arts.
I teach students in grades 1-4. They love the outlet of creativity in a time where testing is the center of attention. Music class is a place for them to have fun and learn at the same time. My school is a great school because the teachers are there for the kids, and the kids come to school excited about their school day. My school is in low income area, and it's hard for us to get supplies that we need for the arts. My students deserve the best!
My Project
Ukulele's would be an amazing resource for my students because it gets them to actively practice what we are learning in music class. We focus on music literacy, such as reading rhythms and notes on the staff, and we do a lot with recorders in third grade. I want to expose them to something new in fourth grade to expand on what they have already learned in third grade. They would be able to practice reading music, as well as get the satisfaction of performing in instrumental ensemble. I would love for them to perform at our annual Spring arts festival! Using the Ukulele's and the book resources I have requested, would have a big impact on what my students take away from fourth grade music. They would learn so much more by being more hands on with learning music!
This will make a difference for the students in my school because it will help to instill a love of music in them.
I hope they leave my classroom absolutely loving music. I would hope that they would take that love and continue to keep music in their lives in some capacity. There is nothing like the satisfaction of performing in a group and having that feeling of teamwork and camaraderie. I want them to experience that awesome feeling.
