My Students

My students are diverse learners requiring individualized learning plans. They are thirsty for knowledge and excited about learning. They need laptops to help them to stay on the very edge of their zones of proximal development. Laptops will help to help to facilitate this process and planning.

Our academy is a Title I school comprised of students from a very vibrant and involved community.

The majority of our students receive free or reduced lunch. Demographically, 40% of our students are African American, 34% are Hispanic, 22% are white, and 4% are of Asian or American Indian decent. My students are diverse learners in terms of their interests, learning styles and overall readiness for various concepts and skills. They thirst for knowledge and new challenges. As their teacher, my highest priority is to remain on the cutting edge of their learning needs. Every child deserves to learn, grow and satisfy her thirst for knowledge. Every child deserves individualized learning experiences that address their needs, goals and desires as a learners.

My Project

The digital divide in the classroom deprives the students of important literature, self-assessment tools, innovative and interactive math, literacy, science and social studies resources, opportunities to conduct research, and more opportunities for tailored and individualized learning programs. My third graders are thriving sponges who take in knowledge readily. Laptops will cultivate the following skills and qualities in my students: confidence, communication, critical thinking, creativity, research and inquiry, collaboration, enthusiasm and independence. As an IB (International Baccalaureate) school, the students will be able to take advantage of research opportunities, prepare presentations, practice important skills and concepts in all subject areas and so much more. There really is no limit to what the children can attain with access to technology.

Every student deserves access to a quality education regardless of socioeconomic background.

Laptops in the classroom will bring learning to life, ensure more research opportunities, allow for deeper scaffolding of tasks, differentiation and individualized instruction, further open students' minds to other cultures and countries, and so much more. Laptops will improve learning and have a positive and indelible impact on the lives of the children. The children are our greatest resource.
