Team 1 students at KMS thrive in our team oriented atmosphere. Our goal is for our students to be able to explore and experience Space, Space Exploration and all its valuable facets as a team through hands on learning. Venturing outside the classroom is key to their success and understanding.
Our students come from various backgrounds, socio-economic statuses and experiences.
As a rural public school our students are acclimated to the closeness of their communities. They come from tight-knit elementary schools into a larger, opportunity diverse and expansive middle school. Our students’ interests and personalities are drawn from the beautiful mountain surroundings they live in. We are a team based middle school with three academic teams; offering six unified arts programs to broaden their academic experiences into various disciplines. Our school brings together five elementary schools from several communities for their seventh and eighth grade years. We are a supportive school community in that we offer various programs for students outside of their academic needs. We’re all connected in that we appreciate and embrace our Mount Washington Valley and all it stands for.
My Project
Our students will be working on a collaborative unit made available by NASA, Space: A Journey to Our Future, throughout a few weeks. They will explore space, space exploration and the collaboration of the International Space Station. With the opportunity our students have in attending the Portland Science Center’s exhibit by NASA, Space: A Journey to Our Future, our students will interact with an exhibit that will complement their classroom learning seamlessly. They will learn about the various technologies, discoveries and scientists that make space exploration possible.
Donations will extend our classrooms to encompass authentic learning outside school doors.
Donations will enhance and augment our students learning through the "Space: A Journey to Our Future" exhibit. Knowledge gained in the classroom will be connected to the experience of visiting the Portland Science Center, a meaningful out of school activity. Many of our students rarely leave the valley, much less the state. It is invaluable for them to experience other parts of New England.
