My students need the furniture, materials, and equipment that will help our MakerSpace come to life, inspiring them as they plan and collaborate to solve problems, design, and build.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school has the highest percentage of military families in our district. Many of our students must rise to the occasion daily to be strong, mature, and responsible when their parents are on deployment. Yet it is evident that they are not only well-adjusted, but ready to infuse their learning with energy and purpose. Our students are curious, creative, and collaborative critical thinkers who are eager to understand the world around them and apply their learning in authentic and innovative ways.
My Project
Our students are ready to take their learning to the next level. A place where they can collaborate and bring their ideas to life, a MakerSpace, is exactly what they need to infuse their schooling experience with creative energy and purpose. Our MakerSpace will be known as the "Timberwolf Design Den."
The "Timberwolf Design Den" will have spaces that inspire curiosity and creativity--brightly colored walls and furniture will excite the senses.
It will also be equipped with materials that empower students to productively engage in critical thinking, problem-solving, and engineering work. Our vision is to create a variety of stations throughout the room with different types of activities and materials to excite and equip learners of every age and interest. We plan to set up a coding station equipped with iPads and OSMOs to help our younger students learn the basics of coding. This will help lay the foundation for the more advanced coding and robotics curriculum that our school offers to upper grade students. Other stations will be for crafting and constructing, and students will have access to a variety of materials such as wooden sticks, cardboard, tape, and glue as they design projects to learn about mechanical principles and solve authentic problems. There will also be electronics and videography stations. Through their diverse learning experiences in the "Timberwolf Design Den" students will start becoming the innovators of the future as they develop a stronger command of the NGSS standards and engineering practices.
Our vision is to lay a strong foundation for students to be excited about and ready for the 21st century world of work. We also strive to inspire students to care about their world, and fill them with a desire to give life to ideas that will have a positive impact on the lives of others.
