Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
When I think of kindergarten, I think of FUN. I think of exploring the world in 6 and a half hours using my mind and hands. My students are having fun learning but I believe they can be engaged even more if we had the necessary technology in our classroom.
Our students are very precocious kindergarteners in an ICT (Integrated Co-Teaching) classroom.
In an ICT classroom, there are two teachers and the students consist of general ed. and special needs students. I am the special educator in the classroom but I support the needs of ALL of our students. Our school is located in a high poverty part of Brooklyn, where 98% of the students receive free breakfast, lunch and a healthy snack.
My Project
Having an LCD projector in our classroom would greatly enhance instruction in all subject areas. I find that our kindergartners are easily distracted and after lunch it is almost impossible to bring them back to focusing and being on task. The projector would assist in allowing an increase in student participation through teacher created power points, interactive math games, and interactive story books. The projector would also assist in everyone seeing and not having to stand on knees during carpet instruction.
Our class consists of Special Needs students and English Language Learners, who need visual stimulation as well in instruction.
The majority of the kindergarten students in our class do not have access to computers in their homes so having a projector in the classroom would give them the exposure to different websites that they wouldn't be able to access in their homes on a regular basis.
Funding this projector would make a world of difference to the students in our classroom who need both the visual and interactive learning.
