Things Don't Get Thrown Away! Away is Somewhere!

My students need these items for our recycling efforts. We got approved to recycle plastics. The strainers are to dump plastic cereal bowls and the bags are to collect.

My Students

"There is no such thing as away!" When we throw anything away, it must go somewhere! We are trying to do our part. We started last year with paper. In May, we started milk and juice cartons. And now, we are going to do plastic. 20-24 cu yds of recycling weekly!

100% of our students receive free or reduced price breakfast and lunch.

Our school is an urban school and our students are getting excited about recycling! This is a new concept for them and for a pre-K, 4 year old student to tell a teacher the milk carton is not in the "BIN" is rewarding. It is very hard finding something that a majority of the 1,200 students can feel passionate about. From 3 and 4 year-olds to 13 and 14 year-olds, they can all take part in the program. We are currently reusing milk cartons to start a garden. The items I am asking for will continue to support our cause.

My Project

The students will use the strainers to dump their milk and remnants of their breakfast cereal. Each classroom has a sink and we don't want to clog those. Also, if students dumped them into the garbage, it would turn into a huge mess. Once breakfast is done and the plastic cereal bowls have been dumped, the strainers will be emptied into the garbage and the bowls put into the clear bags for recycling.

This is just part of our big plan to be the largest building in the school district with this magnitude of a recycling program.

We will also be one of the largest single buildings in the city recycling a majority of our waste. "There is no such thing as away!" When we throw anything away, it must go somewhere!
