Digital learning is my students future. I want my students to be more prepared for the biggest adventure of their lives...learning. By using technology within my classroom, I can enhance their education, their love of learning, and prepare them for their future both inside the classroom and out.
I have a very diverse group of students.
Within my classroom I have those who are considered Honors students, Title 1 students, Special Education students and regular education students. Many lack the access to technology as they are low income families and simply cannot afford this luxury. Our school is a K-5 Title 1 Elementary School l. However, unless you are a Title 1 student you are not able to access the materials available that can help to enhance their education. Technology is a growing area in every child's education, but we have to schedule time within computer labs to be able to utilize the technology.
My Project
My ultimate goal is to try to become a paperless classroom that utilizes technology to gain knowledge and demonstrate understanding of concepts. Currently, I have a grant program called Reflex Math to help my students practice fluency. My school also uses programs such as Brainpop (video lessons), Dreambox (online math learning software), Learn Zillion (video lesson), Plickers (online formative assessment data program) , and Discovery Streaming (video lessons) to help enhance classroom lessons. A Google Apps for Education Instance (calvertlink.org) has been established and is available to immediately support classroom Chromebook learning. Each day my students do rotations within the classroom where they access programs to practice skills taught within the classroom. My goal is also to create opportunities for my students to manage classroom webpages, interact with classmates about educational content, submit and reflect on work, and assess them all online.
Like many public schools we are funded in part by a declining property tax base, my students simply cannot wait until funding stabilizes to enhance their learning with technology.
Donations to this project will allow me to provide my students opportunities to become college and career ready. It will help them be familiar with online learning that many teachers are using in higher level classes. It will make learning interactive leading to a greater love of learning.
