This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Did you know that most Americans think that the varying temperatures of the seasons are caused by the earth being varying distances from the sun? Help my students avoid this common misconception!

I have 35 wonderful, inquisitive students in a diverse, low income urban school in California.

They love working in groups and doing hands on science experiments. Unfortunately, our science supplies consist of a stack of textbooks! They deserve the excitement and engagement that comes with hands on learning!

My Project

Lawrence Hall of Science in Berkeley develops excellent GEMS kits that come complete with all required materials for a unit of interactive, hands on science. Included are ten sets of 11 rock samples, salol crystals, various earth materials samples and general equipment to use in the experiments. I was lucky enough to work with The Lawrence Hall of Science this past summer, and want to provide my under-served students to with the best possible science education.

My student get a buzz of excitement when I tell them we are going to do a hands on experiment.

I want this to be a regular occurrence for them, as it is in better funded schools. Nothing can inspire like an amazing hands on science activity!
