This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
What was your favorite book series when you were a child? This question might conjure up memories of Magic Tree House adventures or the silly mishaps of Amelia Bedelia. My struggling and reluctant readers have yet to discover the great adventures within books, but with these resources, they can.
My student artists attend the first arts-and-technology, Pre-K through 9th grade charter school in our state.
Started by a prominent gospel recording artist, our academy seeks to integrate technology and the arts (visual arts, music, dance, theater) into every core subject. We have just finished our inaugural year at the middle school level, and for the 2013-2014 school year, we will be expanding to include the elementary grades as well.
My Project
Some of my students have never had a book to call their own, and many of them have never been to the public library. As our school expands to include the elementary grades, I would like to provide a fun, vibrant classroom library full of highly engaging books for struggling or reluctant readers. I have selected several series that I believe are high-interest and also of high quality. By choosing series instead of individual books, I am hoping that students will find one that is the perfect fit for them and continue through the whole series. With these books, I can help students discover the magic of reading and help them become lifelong readers.
My students have limited access to books of their own.
These books will provide a classroom library of high-interest literature that will help them to become lifelong readers and lifelong thinkers.
