We start off the class by looking at the 'artist of the day' from the calendar and play music while doing drawing exercises to warm up! Our typical day involves a 'Studio Art' setting, where the students are at their work stations simply creating art using fine art skills and imagination!
The students at our high school are sweet, inventive, creative, inspired, outdoorsy, and feel free to be themselves.
It is a project-based learning school, where we pride ourselves in teaching through DOING, with a strong emphasis on CRITIQUE and EXHIBITION, so the students show their work to the world and are proud of what they created, and in turn, proud of themselves! We live in Colorado, being surrounded by beauty, they are constantly inspired by the outdoorsy community and are yearning to be creative! This is the first year of the art department, so we need all the help we can get for supplies!
My Project
My students simply need materials to work on. I have the knowledge and skills to help them get to where they want to be, however we don't have the supplies on which to create work. They will be creating self-portraits, with chalk pastels on the paper, and making 'Musical Paintings' (involving tape, music lyrics that are inspiring to them, and acrylic paint) with the canvases.
With these constraints, the students will be able to use the tools they have been learning and apply them to a tangible surface-explore with pencil, charcoal and paint.

As I mentioned previously, this is the first year of art class at our high school, so we need help building up an inventory for art materials! We have the desire, the creative minds, the knowledge, and all we need is the blank canvas to work on! Donations will positively affect the students' lives, not only at school, but they will carry the creativity out into the world.
