My students need books to motivate them to read, which include popular fiction, classic fiction, as well as a variety of non-fiction books, and bins for storage.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My 4th grade classroom will be an environment where students are motivated to learn and have the drive for personal success. These books were chosen to help motivate them to become readers or better readers. My goal is that each student increases their reading ability/level by the end of the year.
While I don't know my exact students yet I do know the students of the district after 10 years of service.
These students are eager to learn. These students, if given the right direction and motivation, will give their all to not only please the adults that care about them but to have personal pride in their accomplishments. They don't have much but their pride is everything.
My Project
I've always believed with the right book every person can be a reader. I selected 100 books to begin my classroom library. These 100 books include popular series that I hope once a student gets hooked on the first one they continue until the series ends. These books include fantasy, mystery, realistic fiction, and books with animals as the main character. I've found books with both boys and girls as the main characters. I also have selected 40% of my books as non-fiction books to help my students read informational texts better as well as appeal to students interested in non-fiction material. Every day my students will read and my students will frequently create projects to show their comprehension or understanding (and not just a boring book report!)
The students in this district get to junior high and are behind tremendously in reading.
Now I have the opportunity to reach them in the elementary years and to hopefully set forth a solid foundation of reading.
