I am a 5th Grade Math teacher who loves to see students become involved in using math. Students are playing games in class but while they are, they are using basic skills in math. Please help support math basic skills in a world of computers.
In today's society, students just want to play on a computer or a handheld device.
My goal is to teach them math with their eyes, mind, and hands. In addition, I invite other classes over to learn the games and play. A friendly way for teaching basic concepts and to interact with people in other classes.
My Project
I have one box of 24 math cards and I would like to set up tournaments throughout 5th Grade and other grades. This will create an interest in basic concepts and for them to play a game. Right now, I have one box of cards to play and 20 students in a class. I would like to invite others to play and need more. Students learn and practice basic concepts while they are playing a game. Please help learning come alive in my classroom. I started with one box of 24 cards and this has brought such a demand in my classroom for the cards that too many students are playing with the one deck.
I have last year students coming over all the time wanting to play with this year students. I would like to have more cards so students can practice math in their head instead of a calculator.
