The Gift Of Sound

My students need durable headphones to hear directions while playing interactive reading and math games.

My Students

Sound is wonderful, but when there are more than twenty computers blaring out different sounds it is difficult to concentrate and stay focused on an activity.

As the instructional technology teacher, I interact with over a hundred students daily.

Each of my students enter the tech lab with a unique set of learning styles and intelligences. However, they all have one trait in common - they love technology. For many of the children their experience in the lab is the only opportunity they have to use a computer. If they have a computer at home, they may not have access to the Internet or interactive, kid friendly learning programs. So they look forward to coming to the lab during their assigned period.

My Project

The interactive reading and math programs are deeply engaging because of the colorful graphics, animated characters and entertaining audio. The programs allow the students to build mathematical fluency, learn sight words and build on the skills they have already mastered. Yet, it is very difficult for the students to focus and complete their assignments. Many of the headphones in the lab are broken. As a result, the students without headphones have to turn the speakers on in order to hear the directions. You can probably imagine the noise level in the lab at this time. Some students don't mind the extra noise in the room but others are distracted. The headphones I am requesting will enhance the learning experience for all students. Each student will be able to focus and learn the skills they need to be successful.

It is great to have access to software and Internet based programs that are designed to help students meet their potential as learners.

However, if the materials can't be used effectively then the students will not succeed. The headphones will allow the students to experience the programs the way they are meant to be used. As a result, they will master the reading and math skills they need to move on to the next level in their education.
