Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Last quarter every Wednesday after lunch a knock on the door would bring instant anticipation and jitters would circulate the room. My students knew that it could be their Art teacher who would come in once a week to teach the fundamentals of art skills.
My students are from the inner city and are mostly English Language Learners from backgrounds of low income homes.
They are hard-working, respectful, self-motivated young people who are eager to learn! At our school, teachers, parents, administrators, and community members work together to create the best learning environment possible. Our school works hard to build leadership skills with an emphasis on critical thinking and college readiness for ALL students.
My Project
SPRING HAS SPRUNG! Students will use the colored pencils, watercolors and colored chalk to create color wheels, student portraits, Mother Day projects, and many other art projects bringing color, creativity, and life into the classroom. Can't wait to see the explosion of colors!
A lot of times students and myself are bogged down with all the mandated daily learning slots for Language Arts, Reading, and Mathematics.
Many times there is not enough time for the Arts. Students get excited and the smiles start to come out when Art is on the itinerary.
