My Students

The assortment of books will provide opportunities for collaborative, independent reading for students of all ability levels and interests. The goal is to excite students to open the text voluntarily because they are intrigued to read on their own.

The classroom consists of 23 students, 12 males and 11 females.

Teaching in a school of students who are low income, the make up of my classroom is growing increasingly diverse and is a talented and gifted cluster. This book assortment will allow for me to differentiate instruction for students of varying capacities.

My Project

My students will use these texts for collaborative and independent reading purposes. Imagine walking into a classroom where the teacher is instructing a small group and other students are eagerly paging through self-selected reading materials. They are reading collaboratively, laughing, and talking about the words and pictures to make meaning of the story.

I am a second year teacher with limited resources.

My goal is to build a classroom library that is student centered, offering a range of possibilities to travel the world of knowledge and fantasy through text. As a teacher, I work to support students to develop intrinsic motivation to read. A primary factor in developing intrinsic motivation is allowing students to make choices for their learning journey.
