Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Equipped with his five senses, man explores the universe around him and calls the adventure Science." - Edwin Powell Hubble.
In my classroom, I not only want my students learn, I want them to LOVE learning, and I am constantly searching for the most engaging, high-interest methods of teaching.
My school is in a high poverty area.
My students are amazing but they have limited resources to help them succeed in school. This year the majority of my students are already behind grade level expectations and are requiring extra help to close the gap between their level of understanding and grade level expectations they must meet by the end of each year. It is so important that these students get a chance to experience the joy of learning in all subject areas.
My Project
My students get excited every time we study science in our classroom. They are so inquisitive and have this thirst for learning about more topics and developing deeper understandings of various science topics. It is amazing that no matter how different each child is, they all love science time. Since my students have a lot of academic needs, they haven't always had the opportunity to experience the level of excitement that can be gained from exploring science in the universe around us. I want to empower them with self guided learning so they can experience for themselves the joy of learning how science is all around us! These materials will be used to launch the beginning of our study of each science topic in order to get all my students excited about their upcoming learning. We will integrate these center activities as a center in our daily center rotations. This will give every child an opportunity to build their own background knowledge of each topic before the lessons even begin!
In my classroom, I not only teach my students in order to advance them to the 4th grade.
I shape them to be leaders that will be able to compete in a global economy as adults. Every little bit counts, and these science centers will help to develop another component of the masterpiece that is in every child.
