Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students see me every day for special needs instruction in reading.

My elementary school is a title 1 school in Southeast DC with a 100% African- American student population.

The kids are energetic and very motivated. They have invested in reading and are motivated to get to their grade level reading. I teach the students who are four or more years below grade level. Many of my students need more phonics materials to continue being interested in learning the basics of reading.

My Project

The materials will be used to learn and review phonics. The magnetic words will be used to create and read simple CVC words and the books will be for fluency. The games can be a break from instruction once a week at the end of class to keep the students motivated and excited. The tubes will be used to do projects with the alphabet letters that students are not as familiar with.

The project will improve my reading classroom by creating a fun and exciting learning atmosphere.

The phonics materials will be a new break from paper and pencil instruction. The resources I will receive for my classroom will benefit my student's reading skills.
