My students need BOOKS that are high-interest, new, and relevant! My high school juniors LOVE to read! They read a lot! I want to keep our classroom bookshelves fresh!
My students love to read! I have three bookshelves in our classroom because I feel strongly that just as it is important for children to have print-rich homes, it is important for students to have print-rich classrooms.
My students are brilliant, motivated, urban youth who hunger to read books that both reflect the realities of their lives and transport them to other worlds.
As W.B. Yeats says, "There is another world, but it in this one." Books can be that way that students learn about and enter other worlds.
My Project
My students can check out books from our bookshelves to read at home, on the bus, or when done with their school work. My students regularly give "Book Talks" to younger grades to tell about their books and inspire younger readers. It is thrilling to see teenagers read JUST BECAUSE THEY LOVE TO, not because they have to!
Donations will allow us to refresh and add to our classroom library.
Students will stay engaged in reading when the continually see new titles that pique their interest! I have about 70 students, and they are quickly working their way through the books we have currently. I am excited for them to have access to more books!
