Technology Needed to Help Educate Kids to Stay Fit!

My Students

Down with the old idea of "gym" and in with the new physical and health education through lifelong fitness opportunities. Team sports are not the only way to teach kids to love being active. Every kid is not going to love playing team sports, but that is what most kids are easily exposed to.

My school is an urban charter school with low income at-risk students.

We are almost a 90/90/90 school which means, more than 90 percent of our kids are on free and reduced price lunches, more than 90 percent of our student are from ethnic minorities, and we are almost at 90 percent of students met or achieved high academic standards. Our school has made vast improvements on teaching kids and we are well known for the strides we have made for the past 4-5 years. My students do not have much variety in their lives and being able to explore different opportunities rarely ever happens. Recently, our school has discussed a year round school schedule to bridge the gap so our students do not regress. Usually during breaks from the school year our students are not given experiences or opportunities from their families to keep their learning going.

My Project

I am asking for an iPad for my classroom so I can show my students how they can incorporate lifelong fitness into their lives. I will be able to do this by being able to show my students different videos and having interactive lessons to show how to properly experience and explore new activities in and out of school. There are several apps that I would love to be able to use in my classroom. Human Kinetics Now is an app will help me to stay current and up to date with any and all trends and news in the world of sport, fitness, physical education and exercise science. Yoga Free would help my students explore over 200 different yoga exercises. Pilates: Day by Day shows how to do different moves along with descriptions. This will help my students explore more options of physical activity other than the basic team sports. Being able to educate my students with up to date information is one of my top priorities as a teacher along with expanding their opportunities and experiences!

My project is very important to expand my students' learning on how to keep their bodies and minds healthy through interactive lessons and experiences.

They will never learn or have these skills unless I pave the road with up to date information. You will be helping and creating new experiences for my students that would otherwise never have these great opportunities! This will help our school move up to that last 90 percent that we strive for on a daily basis.
