My students need engaging and fun activities to reinforce beginning reading skills! These two items (iPads) would allow for meaningful practice during our daily center time!
Teaching first grade is definitely not a walk in the park! It is, however; a calling and a passion of mine! My first graders are working hard to learn the basic skills of reading, writing, and math! They come to school everyday excited and ready to learn, regardless of their circumstances at home!
I teach in a suburban school district with a very diverse population of students.
The children that attend my building face many challenges in and out of the classroom. Sometimes learning curriculum and focusing on schoolwork are placed second due to family circumstances and instability at home. I try my absolute best to make learning fun and engaging for my students. I want them to feel safe and unrestricted at school. I expect them to do their best and, above all, I want them to know I care for and about them, as I do my own children. I have celebrated many accomplishments with my students and have hugged them when their world is crumbling. I enjoy watching their enthusiasm as they learn new things. I want to provide opportunities they may not have outside the walls of our classroom. I am hopeful that introducing a new form of technology into our classroom will ignite a passion and fire in relation to learning foundational skills!
My Project
In order to teach to every student every day, I utilize work stations in my classroom. These stations incorporate the skills we are working on within our daily lessons. I would love to have the opportunity to incorporate a new form of technology to enhance that experience. Tablets are great, because of the apps available, to motivate reluctant readers and mathematicians. Games are a way of providing extra practice in a fun, non-threatening, and meaningful way. In my workstations, I place students in small groups of four. So, two tablets would be perfect for our classroom because students would be able to complete tasks and play games in pairs. I am confident, this technology would be just what some of my students who struggle the most need.
Donations toward this project would provide opportunities for students to feel a sense of accomplishment and pride.
It would provide opportunities that they would not otherwise experience. It would also familiarize them with the technologies required to be twenty-first century learners! This, in turn, will begin to prepare them to compete globally for learning opportunities, and farther down the road, job opportunities.
