Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students our faced with choices every day. I would like to increase technology in our classroom in order to increase opportunity and assist with making better choices. "It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities." -Albus Dumbledore
Our students are a part of a programs that focuses on the needs of students with emotional and social challenges.
Between the two programs sharing this technology, there are a total of 10 students in the programs, but many other students also are educated within the classrooms . These students belong to the general education classroom, but are pulled out for academic, social, emotional and other areas they need support. Our school is very supportive of our students and makes sure they are included. I believe these students are capable of creating futures that will lead to success when given opportunities. They thrive with technology and our school lacks many technology items.
My Project
My students need access to technology for curriculum and writing skills. I chose two PC laptops and one Macbook for diversity. With this technology, the students will be engaging in word processing activities that will not only increase their ability to type, but also assist with their creativity. One major challenge is the ability to spell correctly. When they have access to word processing, they are able to focus on ideas. This technology would also be used as a way of expressing themselves through a newsletter and/or website.
In creating a website and or newsletter the students would be able to express themselves through a different forum.
They would be able to communicate what is going on in their school life to family and friends. This would give them an opportunity to stand out in a positive light. Overall, I feel that this would increase their confidence and academic skills. It would create a forum in which they could work on social skills and gain a better understanding of the writing process.
