Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have very curious students who want to know more about history. They ask important questions and often work in groups to analyze and discuss texts/photographs. I would like to add a technology station which they can utilize to research history.
I am privileged to work with such an incredible group of students who have a strong desire to learn and get ready for college.
I like to challenge my students by making them critically think about the world around them as they discover the past in our Ancient Civilizations and World History Classes. I am fortunate enough to work with educators that share my passion to make sure that our students are ready to compete in a global economy. While our school is one of the bright spots of our community, it has very limited funding and technology. My students deserve better access to technology in all of their classrooms.
My Project
I have 5 history classes totaling about 160 students. The students engage in a variety of group reading activities in which they analyze and discuss primary and secondary documents. Students create questions, organize the information in thinking maps and then formulate responses to critical thinking questions that make them consider our past and future. I would like to give students the ability to answer questions that they have about the topics we learn in class, by giving them a technology station where they can go and research some of their questions. The Kindle Fire tablets with screen protectors would serve this purpose. Each group would send a researcher to the Kindle station, to research questions the groups may have in their discussions.
The Kindles will help my students take charge of their education by giving them a tool to research evidence to support their arguments outside of the classroom within the classroom setting.
