This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In the resource room, my students work to learn skills that their peers have mastered. They have fun learning when they can read books of interest to them.

Although my students love the same stories and novels as their peers, they aren't able to read grade-level books on their own and comprehend what they are reading.

Many are learning English. My students want to enjoy compelling texts on their own during reading time.

My Project

My students already use the one Kindle I own to read books with narration, which allows them to read grade level books, work on their reading fluency, be independent, and discuss grade level books with their friends. They have dug into the Magic Treehouse series and they love manipulating the technology. We are requesting 2 Kindles.

As fluency improves, so does overall reading comprehension.

My students will gain confidence to read orally, they will increase their comprehension as they hear books presented orally, and they will gain knowledge from texts that were previously not accessible to them.
