The students at our school are looking a bit drab around here. Well, not the students, but their work in the computer lab is. All of the 1st-5th graders work so hard to create computer generated projects only to learn that we have to print these amazing works in black and white.
All of our wonderfully eager 700+ students come through the computer lab weekly.
The students come from a variety of backgrounds and educational experiences. Our school is suburban with about 40% of students receiving free or reduced priced lunch. There is not one single student who is not ready, willing and eager to learn all they can about technology. It is such a joy just being around such enthusiastic learners. Unfortunately, all of their hard work has to be printed in black and white. Our teachers have access to a color printer, but students do not. When the students found this out, they offered to take up money to pay to use that printer. It would be so motivational to enable the students to print in color with a color printer of their very own.
My Project
One of the students' favorite things to do is create computer generated projects. They can barely contain their excitement when they see what they can do with Word Art or simply inserting clip art into a document. They love creating books online and learning how to use various programs to create other projects. The expressions on their faces are priceless when they see their finished projects. However, it is quite disheartening to see their faces drop when, after spending two or three weeks working diligently on a project, I tell them we have to print the projects in black and white. The students have never seen their colorful projects printed and displayed in color. Our students take such pride in their work and would truly appreciate being able to show their efforts in the hallway in a color, just the way they created the projects.
All students who come into the computer lab for special area would benefit from the use of a color printer.
They take such pride in their work and the effort they put forth is over the top every single time. I know that the students would love to see their creations hanging in the hallway in color instead of black and white. They will love knowing that they have a color printer to give their completed projects that extra 'OOMPH' and spark even more motivation and creativity.
