Have you ever experienced the frustration of waiting for an old computer to boot up? Have you been almost done typing an important document or in the middle of working on a project only to have your computer boot you off? My students experience these frustrations every day.
My students are six and seven year old first graders, with a love for learning and increasing their academic skills everyday.
I have a high number of English Language Learner students in my room, who are eager to learn but struggle with the complexity of learning the English language. Our school is moderate poverty and most students do not have access to computers in their homes.
My Project
Children relate to computer based programs that are hands-on and interactive. My goal is to get the very old and incompatible computers in our classroom replaced with two new touch screen computers and one laptop that will allow my students the hands-on and interactive experience that will enhance their education. My students will use the computers, with the unlimited computer based educational programs available, without the frustrations they are experiencing now. The laptop will be used with individual students who need the one-on-one time with the teacher. I know getting this new technology in our classroom will increase the love of learning my students already possess with the effectiveness the educational programs to help build needed skills in all content areas.
Since the poverty level in our school is so high, getting these new computers for my classroom will give my students a chance to enhance their learning day by using hands-on, interactive technology that will make learning exciting and fun.
Without this new technology, my students will not receive the necessary skills that technology offers, and will miss out on an opportunity to grow academically through hands-on technology.
